New Water Tank Installation – Begins October 2019

Recently, the City of Taylorsville Water Department has been in the process of upgrading the water infrastructure that provides water to your area. We are now in the final stages of that process, and some water customers in the northeastern sector of water system may temporarily experience some inconsistency in the water pressure. This will be due to the dissimilarities of the present water tank elevation, the newer water tank elevation, and the transition of use of the water tanks. The transition includes the discontinued use of the Mt Eden and Settlers Trace water tanks and beginning service at a newly built water tank located on Hickory Ridge Rd. The effective areas include Mt Eden Rd, Mill Rd, Van Buren Rd, Southville Pike, Little Mount Rd (2 lane portion), Briar Ridge Rd, Little Mount Rd (4 lane portion), and all tributary roads connected directly and indirectly to these roads.

The necessity for the replacement/upgrade had become essential for several reasons. First and foremost, to provide better service to our customers, to promote continuous water service. Secondly, two existing pump stations were simply worn out due to age and can’t be upgraded any further to meet demand and located in a flood prone area prohibiting 24/7 access, which is required by the Kentucky Division of Water. And finally, a larger tank was needed to meet the demands and allow the discontinued use of failing water tanks.

What should you expect in the coming weeks? As the final stages of the project near, you may experience lower water pressure at times, especially during the initial filling and testing of the new tank.

Why is my water pressure lower than originally and will it remain at this level? As part of the project, we are currently altering the water flow from the older water pump station to the new water pump station. In doing so, some customers may experience lower water pressure at some locations. This will not be permanent, as pressure should increase when the new water tank is placed in operation. With that said, we are unable to determine the exact pressure, due to the fact the new water tank is higher in elevation and we do not know the exact demand that will be placed on the system. However, your water pressure should be sufficient and well within the provisions required by the Kentucky Division of Water Rules & Regulations.

What are our expectations? We are pleased to say, this improvement to the infrastructure will provide higher pressure to most and somewhat the same for others. This is the starting point toward upgrading other areas of need in the northeastern sector of the water system. As other improvements are completed, it will alleviate water leaks, unnecessary water loss and outages, as well as lower maintenance cost.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our office at 502-477-3235.
