Deposit Refunds to Begin – July 1, 2019

During the months of July and August, the City of Taylorsville will begin to return customer deposits to those water customer accounts that are eligible and meet the criteria as approved by the City of Taylorsville City Commission. Any customer who has not appeared on our cutoff list for the previous 18 months (since December 31, 2017) will be issued a credit on their account in the amount of their original deposit. Deposits will be applied directly to customers’ accounts and will remain there as a credit until all funds are used for water bill payments. During each successive month, staff will look back over the cutoff list and see if any additional customers have by then met the criteria, and likewise issue a credit to those accounts.

The City of Taylorsville City Commission has established this new policy in order to return the deposit to those that they feel are no longer a risk for bad debt due to their consistency of paying their bills. This policy will result in approximately 3,200 customers seeing a credit on their account. Approximately $312,900 will be returned in the first month. This money, by law, has been kept in a non-interest-bearing account and has been used to capture the debt incurred by these customers when they leave the city without paying their bills.
